FBX to OBJ Converter

Extract the static mesh from an Autodesk FBX into OBJ when an older or simpler pipeline cannot complete the import.

Your file never leaves this browser. No account, no upload, no limit on how many you convert.

HOW IT WORKS

How to Convert an FBX File to OBJ

Use the browser to isolate FBX mesh geometry and produce a straightforward OBJ handoff.

  1. Choose the FBX

Select an FBX file up to 100 MB from your local device.

    No server upload

  2. Verify static geometry

Review the reported triangle count, object count and bounding box.

    Scene features are excluded

  3. Export the OBJ

Download the surviving static mesh with coordinate numbers unchanged.

What Survives FBX to OBJ

FBX can contain a complete scene, but OBJ is a simpler destination for static geometry. Animation, rigs, skinning, cameras, lights and scene hierarchy do not make the trip. The coordinate numbers remain unchanged because neither format declares a unit. Review the reported mesh counts and bounds before passing the OBJ downstream.

Geometry

Only the static FBX mesh survives in the OBJ. Animated deformation and other scene components are excluded from the geometry output.

FBX scene reduced to portable static OBJ geometry

INSIDE THE CONVERSION

How FBX to OBJ Conversion Builds the Output

The browser evaluates the FBX scene and writes its usable static mesh as OBJ. These four stages show how scene placement becomes portable geometry.

  1. 01

The loader resolves the FBX scene

Binary FBX 7.x is parsed into a scene that the browser can inspect mesh by mesh.

That pass finds the static geometry, counts its triangles and calculates one bounding box across the loaded scene. The report appears before export, so you can confirm that the expected objects were readable.

  2. 02

    World transforms become OBJ positions

FBX nodes can move, rotate and scale their meshes inside a hierarchy.

The OBJ writer evaluates each vertex in its final world position. This keeps the visible placement of the static meshes even though the FBX node hierarchy itself has no role in the simpler output.

  3. 03

Static geometry crosses the format boundary

OBJ records mesh vertices, normals and face connections.

The browser writes that static surface and leaves animation, rigs, skinning, cameras and lights in the source FBX. The resulting file is focused on the geometry that simpler importers need.

  4. 04

    Coordinate values are not rescaled

FBX and OBJ do not declare a unit that this route can safely convert.

The exporter therefore carries the evaluated coordinates through without multiplying them. Use the displayed bounding box to select the matching import unit in the destination application.

BEFORE YOU CONVERT

Why Opolyo, not a typical FBX to OBJ converter

The practical tradeoff is a simpler mesh file in place of the broader FBX scene container.
Mesh
Most tools:Many legacy pipelines often accept OBJ static geometry more readily than FBX scenes.
Opolyo:Opolyo extracts the static mesh into an OBJ download.
Scene features
Most tools:Many format conversions often drop data that the destination format cannot represent.
Opolyo:The result excludes animation, rigs, skinning, hierarchy, cameras and lights because OBJ has no place for them.
Units
Most tools:Many importers often apply their own working scale to unitless FBX or OBJ values.
Opolyo:Opolyo carries the coordinate numbers through unchanged and makes no unit guess.
Processing
Most tools:Many browser services often send FBX files to remote infrastructure.
Opolyo:Conversion runs on your machine inside the current tab.
Barriers
Most tools:Many online workflows often combine file quotas with an account requirement.
Opolyo:You can convert unlimited files without an account, subject to 100 MB per file.
The output is intended for the static geometry stage of your pipeline. Keep the original FBX when you still need its animation or scene structure. The converter at the top of this page does it without an account.

FBX to OBJ Converter FAQ

Question not here? Ask by email.
  • It can when the pipeline needs only static mesh geometry and already accepts OBJ. The converter removes FBX features that OBJ cannot store.
  • No. OBJ has no animation representation, so the result contains static geometry only.
  • They are not included because OBJ cannot contain either feature. Keep the FBX source for workflows that depend on skeletal deformation.
  • They do not appear in the OBJ. Scene hierarchy is also absent because those FBX structures have no OBJ equivalent.
  • Use binary FBX 7.x. Older FBX versions and text FBX from some exporters are not readable on this route, so exporting a current binary FBX gives the loader the supported input.
  • Yes, the local converter is free. Your device performs the processing, so there is no per file compute charge.
  • No account is needed for this tool. You can choose the FBX and save its OBJ directly.
  • The conversion count is unlimited. Each FBX must stay within 100 MB because the browser tab holds the working file in memory.
  • No upload takes place. File reading and OBJ creation occur on your machine.
  • It does not use one. The active browser tab completes the static mesh conversion.
  • Review the triangle count, object count and bounding box shown before download. Those values describe the geometry read from your FBX.
  • The converter does not change the coordinate values. Neither FBX nor OBJ declares a unit, so no scale can be inferred from the formats.
  • OBJ cannot represent animation, rigs, skinning, scene hierarchy, cameras or lights. Only the static mesh survives this format change.
  • Yes. Mesh vertices are written in their evaluated world positions, so FBX translation, rotation and scale become part of the static OBJ geometry.
  • Yes. The exporter writes the static geometry from every mesh it loaded into one OBJ file. Check the reported object count before download to confirm that the expected meshes were present in the FBX scene.
  • Opolyo's paid generator can create a new 3D model from a photograph or written description. GPU generation consumes credits, whereas extracting your existing FBX mesh locally costs nothing.

What people make with Opolyo

5,873 makers and counting. A few of them told us what they made, and what happened next.

  • The customer's payment dashboard, a net revenue panel reading $2,605.00 with $0.00 for the comparison period
I’m a game dev and originally started using this to turn some of my reference images into 3D assets for a project. A few of the models turned out better than I expected, so I cleaned them up and started selling them on the side too. Just crossed $2,600 in net revenue from those 3D models. Never really planned on becoming an asset seller, but I’m definitely not complaining 🙌

  • Didn’t think a single image would get me this far. The model needed a little cleanup, but I had a solid base ready in minutes. Saved me an entire afternoon.

  • Turned one of my kid’s drawings into a little 3D character with Opolyo. She absolutely lost it when she saw it. Probably the most fun thing I’ve made with this so far.

  • The customer's Stripe gross volume: £231.05 for Sep 2025 to Aug 2026 against £0.00 for the twelve months before, the line flat at zero until a single month of £186.15 near the end
Honestly didn’t expect anyone to actually pay for the 3D stuff I was making. Put a few of them up for sale just to test it and somehow made £231 from my models. Still feels a bit unreal seeing that number 😂

  • The customer's Dodo Payments record of paid 3D requests, at a range of different amounts
I started using Opolyo for a few custom 3D requests from clients and somehow it turned into a little side service of its own. Some people just need a quick conversion, others want more detailed work, so the order sizes are all over the place. Seeing multiple paid requests come in on the same day still feels pretty surreal. Never thought image-to-3D would become something clients actually kept coming back for.

  • I use a lot of reference images when working on interior concepts, and this made it really easy to turn an object I liked into a rough 3D asset. I still adjusted a few things afterward, but it saved me from modeling the whole thing from zero.

    Claire Bennett
  • Couldn’t find the exact prop I needed anywhere, so I threw the reference image into Opolyo as a last resort. The first result wasn’t perfect, but the overall shape and proportions were already there. It actually looked like the thing in my reference. After a little cleanup, it was exactly what I needed.

  • Used it to turn a couple of product images into 3D models for our store. Took a few tries to get the best result, but still much easier than hiring someone to model everything manually.

  • The customer's inbox of Stripe payment notifications: five payments, four of $14.99 and one of $125.88
Woke up, checked my inbox and Stripe notifications just kept showing up. Most were $14.99 orders, then a $125.88 payment landed later in the day. I’m still pretty new to selling my 3D stuff, so seeing 5 sales come in on the same day was a really nice feeling. 🔥

  • I had a photo of a small figurine from years ago that I couldn’t find anywhere anymore. Tried putting it into Opolyo just to see what would happen, and the result was honestly better than I expected. It felt like bringing an old thing back to life. I still want to clean up a few details before printing it, but this is probably my favorite use so far.

  • Turned a photo into a little 3D model, printed it, and gave it to a friend for his birthday. Wasn’t expecting him to react that much 😂 He absolutely loved it. Now I’m thinking of making a few more for Christmas.

  • The customer's Dodo Payments dashboard for their 3D commission work, totalling $181.92
I mostly got into this because I like 3D printing and wanted to make a few custom pieces without learning modeling from scratch. Then a couple of people asked if I could make something for them too, so I started taking small requests here and there. Just hit $181.92 from custom 3D commissions. It’s not a huge number, but getting paid for something I was already doing for fun feels pretty awesome.

  • Been playing around with this for a small game project and some of the results are actually really fun. I generated a few props from reference images and one of them ended up fitting the scene perfectly. It’s staying in the game.
